Glens Falls High School to Retire Joseph Girard III’s Iconic #11 Jersey
At NOVUS, we celebrate the triumphs of purpose-driven athletes who inspire greatness both on and off the field. One such athlete is Joseph Girard III, the longest-tenured NOVUS athlete, whose journey from Glens Falls to professional basketball in Europe has been nothing short of extraordinary.
On Friday, February 14, 2025, Glens Falls High School will honor Joseph’s remarkable career by retiring his iconic #11 jersey. This historic event will take place at the Glens Falls High School Gymnasium, with the ceremony set to begin at approximately 6:30 PM, following the conclusion of the Boys’ Junior Varsity Basketball game.
This momentous occasion will bring together past teammates, coaches, family, friends, and the entire Glens Falls community to celebrate the athlete who put their hometown on the map.
A Legacy Etched in Greatness
Joseph Girard III’s name is synonymous with excellence in New York basketball. Over five stellar seasons at Glens Falls High School, Joseph rewrote the record books, becoming New York State’s All-Time Leading Scorer with an astounding 4,763 career points. His career average of 39.04 points per game remains unmatched, and his 688 career 3-pointers set the bar for generations to come.
His crown-claiming achievement? Leading Glens Falls to their first-ever State Championship with an unforgettable game-winning buzzer-beater.

"This honor recognizes his extraordinary impact on our program and community. Joseph’s contributions are immeasurable, and his legacy of excellence, leadership, and dedication will forever be a part of our history. With that said, we are pleased to let it be known that #11 will never be worn again in GF Boy’s Basketball. Joseph’s jersey will be enshrined in our gym ensuring his legacy will live on forever!"
Joseph’s high school coach, Rob Girard, reflected on the honor: “We are extremely proud of Joseph! This is a more than well-deserved honor. His body of work, both on and off the court, speaks for itself.”
Girard III’s achievements resonated far beyond the basketball court, inspiring both young and old in the Glens Falls community. His games became a beacon of excitement during the long winter months, uniting fans who watched his success continue through Syracuse University, Clemson University, and now in the Professional ranks.

Joseph Girard III has been part of the NOVUS family since his rise to prominence as a college athlete. As the longest-tenured NOVUS athlete, Joseph has exemplified our mission to empower purpose-driven athletes to claim their crown and inspire others to chase their dreams.

From Glens Falls to the World Stage
After his record-breaking high school career, Joseph’s talent carried him to Syracuse University and Clemson University, where he became one of the most decorated guards in ACC history:
2,196 career points
402 career 3-pointers
550 assists and 475 rebounds
3rd All-Time in ACC history for career 3-pointers made
ACC record-holder for 67 consecutive free throws made
Now playing professionally in Europe for Nevėžis Kėdainiai in Lithuania, Joseph continues to inspire athletes worldwide.
As he returns home for this special honor, Joseph shared his gratitude:
“Having my jersey retired at my high school is a great honor. This gym, this community, and these fans were the start of everything for me. I hope my story inspires others to work hard and dream big!”
